Michele WallaceMichele (MiCo) Wallace is an artist whose artistic styling’s emphasize her passion for clay and African art. Born and raised in Los Angeles , Michele’s formal education is in math and science. She first discovered her passion for art in junior high school. In 1979, she left Los Angeles for the opportunity to attend a historical black college where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. This meant that she had to put her love for art on the back burner for awhile. Over the years, she intermittently took ceramic classes at adult school but she never allowed her passions to resurface. In 1999, she felt that something was missing from her life and she decided to take a ceramics class to fill the void. Since that time her passion for clay and the African culture has flourished. It has become a welcomed release during hectic work weeks. Michele has made two trips to West Africa and she has been profoundly influenced. She expresses her love for her culture through her art and through the mediums she uses which include: cowrie shells, raffia, beads, and the Adrinka symbols. After several well received showings of her work in 2003, Michele decided it was time to take the next step and offer her compositions to art galleries in the Los Angeles area.
